The Golden Globe Awards 2024, scheduled for Sunday, January 7, is one of the most-anticipated events in showbiz. And on this occasion, the brightest stars from around the world are expected to gather to celebrate the excellence in film and television. The award ceremony also marks the commencement of the awards season in Hollywood.

Golden Globe Awards 2024 would be broadcasted live from Beverly Hills, California. While the awards event has been traditionally dominated by Hollywood films and music, in recent years, India too has made a mark by winning the prestigious awards. Last year, ‘RRR’ made waves at the Golden Globes by bagging the Best Song award for ‘Naatu Naatu’. This year, no Indian film or original soundtrack has been nominated, but nonetheless, let’s look at India’s journey at the Golden Globe Awards in recent times.

1. In the year 1957, ‘Do Ankhen Barah Haath’ became the first Indian film to get a Golden Globe nomination. Directed by V Shantaram, the film even bagged a Silver Bear at the 8th Berlin International Film Festival apart from a Samuel Goldwyn International Film Award.

2. In 1983, Richard Attenborough’s ‘Gandhi’ was also nominated at the Golden Globe awards under several categories including Best Actor, Best Screenplay, New Star of the Year, and Best Director. While the film earned the awards in all the categories, it went on to win 11 Academy Award nominations as well.

3. AR Rahman became the first Indian to win a Golden Globe in 2009, and it was for his soundtrack and background music composed for the 2007 film ‘Slumdog Millionaire’. He also was honoured with two Academy Awards for the same.

4. Last year, SS Rajamouli’s blockbuster hit film ‘RRR’ not only stormed the Indian box office, but its song ‘Naatu Naatu’ became a global sensation as well. The song created history after winning a Golden Globe award in the Best Original Song category and later an Academy award, as well.
