The prestigious Golden Globe Award ceremony is back. The 81st Golden Globe Awards will be held on January 7 and will stream in India at 6:30 AM IST on Lionsgate Play. The show will be broadcast live from Beverly Hills, California. Comedian Jo Koy will host the event and it will also feature presenters like Michelle Yeoh, Will Ferrell, Angela Bassett and Amanda Seyfried, among others. For the unversed, this will be the first Golden Globes ceremony after the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) disbanded in 2023. The Golden Globe figurines are manufactured at a factory at Gove in Oklahoma, by Society Awards and you will be shocked to know its cost. The cost of each figure is about $800 which is Rs 6,65,530.80. They are made of marble and zinc and are plated in 24-karat gold.
As per a report by Tulsa World, HFPA said that the awards were redesigned to make the statues stronger and more visually appealing in 2007.
Talking about the Golden Globes 2024 nominations, there are strong contenders this time. Christopher Nolan's 'Oppenheimer' and Martin Scorsese's 'Killers of the Flower Moon' are contending for the best motion picture (drama) category. Also, Nolan, Scorsese and Greta Gerwig are contending for the Best Director award.
‘Barbie’ received the maximum nominations, with 9, followed by ‘Oppenheimer’ with 8. Also, this time two new categories are introduced. 'Cinematic and Box Office Achievement' and 'Best Performance in Stand-Up Comedy on Television'.
