Filmmaker Guneet Monga, the executive producer of Oscar-winning documentary short film ‘The Elephant Whisperers’, returned to India on Friday morning and she was welcomed in a heartwarming way at the Mumbai airport. She witnessed huge screams of excitement by the people present there. The paparazzi were also out in full strength as well. Clearly, she held on dearly to her coveted Oscar statuette.

However, it cannot be ruled out that despite having won the Oscar, she was not allowed to speak on the Oscars 2023 stage after ‘The Elephant Whisperers’ win. While she was waiting for director Kartiki Gonsalves to complete her speech that she could take over, the Academy played Guneet off and she did not get an opportunity to speak.

Now speaking to Bombay Times, Guneet said that she was shocked to know that, and mentioned, “I did not get a chance to deliver my Oscar speech. There was a shock on my face. I just wanted to say it’s India’s first Oscar in an Indian production, which is such a huge thing. My heart started racing as I couldn’t have come so far and not be heard. I’ll go back there and I will make sure I’m heard.”

Meanwhile, as she landed, she spoke with the media present there and said, “We had a big competition. There was another film in our category supported by Malala Yousazai. Our film worked across countries, ages… the kind of love we are getting from across the world, the film worked its magic,” as reported by ANI.

Last week, Monga was at the global entertainment cloud nine when she bagged her second Oscar for the documentary, ‘The Elephant Whisperers’. She is part of the small exclusive club of top film personalities who have won Oscars in various departments of film-making.
