Most of Hollywood is on a pause after the strike by the Writers Guild of America last week. Joining them was The Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG- AFTRA). Now Deepika Padukone, who is a member of SAG-AFTRA, made sure to extend her support with those on strike by not being a part of ‘Project K’ promotions at San Diego Comic Con.

For those caught unaware, Deepika became part of the union when she made her English language film debut as the female lead in ‘XXX: The Return of Xander Cage’, which also featured Vin Diesel. Now with the SAG-AFTRA strike, all union members cannot provide promotional or publicity services, even at conventions, such as the San Diego Comic Con.

Hence, as a member of SAG-AFTRA and in line with their membership regulations, Deepika decided not be part of ‘Project K’ promotional activity at the San Diego Comic Con. However, other cast members of the film including Prabhas, Kamal Haasan and Amitabh Bachchan became a part of the event.

SAG-AFTRA, a union which represents about 160,000 Hollywood actors, officially went on strike after it failed to reach a deal with Hollywood’s biggest studios. Hollywood actors (all of them who are members of the union) and writers are on strike simultaneously for the first time in around 60 years, and most of the film and television productions in Hollywood have come to a halt.

Coming to ‘Project K’, the film directed by Nag Ashwin will be released in two parts, with the first installment releasing on January 12, 2024.
