Colombian-American actress Sofía Vergara spoke her heart out about what caused her and Joe Manganiello to part ways. The actress stated that Manganiello’s wish to have children is what caused them to split up.
During an interview with El País, a Spanish newspaper, earlier this week, Vergara, 51, was asked about her divorce.
She stated, "My marriage broke up because my husband was younger," the actress said of Manganiello, 47, adding that, "He wanted to have kids and I didn’t want to be an old mom." The 'Modern Family' actress added that she feels "it’s not fair to the baby," being mindful of other women and stating that, "I respect whoever does it, but that’s not for me anymore."
Vergara also included her only child, Manolo Gonzalez Vergara in the conversation. "I had a son at 19, who is now 32, and I’m ready to be a grandmother, not a mother," she exclaimed. "I’m almost in menopause; it’s the natural way of things," she said. She added, "When my son becomes a dad, let him bring the baby to me for a while and then I’ll give it back to him and go on with my life; that’s what I have to do."
But just because she's divorced, doesn't mean she's not welcome to having anyone else in her life later on. She said that if her next partner wants to have children, "he has to come with [his own] children."
On another note, Vergara who will be seen next in 'Griselda,' admitted to being surprised by the media’s reactions to her split from Joe. She told CBS Sunday Morning, "I have to say the press was very respectful and very nice."
Sofía and Joe tied the knot in November 2015 and decided to part ways in July 2023. The former couple had told Page Six exclusively that, "We have made the difficult decision to divorce. As two people that love and care for one another very much, we politely ask for respect of our privacy at this time as we navigate this new phase of our lives."
