Indian filmmaker Payal Kapadia's feature film 'All We Imagine As Light' scripted history at Cannes 2024 and how! It clinched the prestigious Grand Prix award at the 77th edition of the Cannes Film Festival. Kapadia became the first Indian to lift the coveted award. The entire nation is celebrating the feat. Celebs poured in congratulatory messages for the entire team of 'All We Imagine As Light'. Actor Amruta Subhash is also one of them who expressed her happiness on the big win.
In an interview with India Today, Amruta said the win felt 'personal' for her. She added, ''Just to have a film in a competition is such a big achievement for any artist. And they won it. I cannot describe my emotions in words, I am just overwhelmed and happy.''
The 'Lust Stories 2' actress further said, ''Honestly, seeing talent being recognised also gives you the strength to carry on. These women are so unabashed, honest and dedicated towards their craft that it makes you fall in love with cinema once again. Not just Chhaya, Payal Kapadia and her actors, but even Anusuya Sengupta who won for 'Shameless'. That sisterhood, camaraderie and that honesty towards the art has been so inspiring''.
She also feels proud that the country is representing Indian cinema at the prestigious festival. Amruta said, ''These women have proved that one needs to be authentic, brave, and honest about who they are. I think it's a great message for people who wonder if being talented is enough. I have been to festivals and understand what it means to walk that red carpet. To compete and win is an altogether different high. I am just so happy for all of them. This is how you do it''.
'All We Imagine As Light' stars Kani Kusruti, Divya Prabha, Chhaya Kadam and Hridhu Haroon among others in key roles. It is said to be releasing in theatres soon.
