Actress Sridevi who is known as the 'first female superstar' of Indian cinema left a remarkable legacy behind her. The Padma Shri awardee starred in several movies of a wide range of genres in her career that spanned over 50 years. Some of her best works include films such as 'Moondram Pirai', 'Sadma', 'Lamhe', 'Mr. India', 'Chaalbaaz', 'Kshana Kshanam', 'Pathinaru Vayathinile', and 'English Vinglish' among others.
Sridevi's daughter Janhvi Kapoor is proud of her mom's legacy. In an interview, she opened up on the rumours of playing her mother's role in the remake of the cult classic 'Chaalbaaz'.
When Zoom asked her about the reports, Janhvi said, "Like how we all just went quiet (laughs!)...No, I think...that's. Um, some things should never be touched. Yeah".
Rajkummar Rao, who was also part of the interview agreed and said, "Yes, some things should never be touched".
Earlier too Janhvi was against the remake of her mom's fims. In an interview with Times of India, she said, “‘Mr India’ is such an iconic film that I don’t think it should be touched. I don’t think even ‘Chaal Baaz’ should get remade, although there were talks about it. I don't think any of my mom’s films should be remade.”
“And if at all they are being remade, then they shouldn’t be remade with me because people won’t be happy at all. I will anyway fall short. There are similarities between me and her genetically. But I am a different person. With another actress filling in, it would be like it’s their interpretation. But with me, it would be too close to home and yet not be home at the same time.”
Directed by Pankaj Parashar, 'Chaalbaaz' released in 1989. It featured Sridevi in dual roles. The film also starred with Rajinikanth and Sunny Deol. From the dialogues, songs to the action, everything about the movie was too good.
Coming back to Janhvi Kapoor, she is currently gearing up for the release of her upcoming film, 'Mr & Mrs Mahi'. It is all set to hit the screens on May 31.
