The 2024 Oscar Nominations are out. The nominations were announced yesterday evening. The Best Director category saw five directors competing for the prestigious award. In what remains a glass ceiling-shattering moment, Justine Triet was nominated as the only woman filmmaker in this category.
Justine Triet was nominated for Best Director at the Oscars 2024 for her film, ‘Anatomy of a Fall.’ Reacting to the news that she was the only woman in this category, the director said that she was surprised. She spoke to The Hollywood Reporter and said, “I cried… the first one [nomination] was for script and I was so happy. But it was after when I watched the name of my editor, I cried, because it was so surprising. I didn't imagine that Laurent Sénéchal could be involved in this game. And of course for best director. I was surprised because there are no more women beside me. So of course, I'm so, so lucky and very proud of all these things.”
Adding to this, she mentioned that it was amazing to be nominated for the award with other talented directors. Justine Triet continued, “Most of these people since I was a child I've admired so much, and of course to be involved in this history, it means a lot for me. It was not a dream because I could not imagine.”
‘Anatomy of a Fall’ revolves around the story of a writer who is proving her innocence in her husband’s death. The movie stars Sandra Huller, Swann Arlaud, Antoine Reinartz, Samuel Theis, and Jehnny Beth in lead roles.
To date, the Academy has nominated only eight women for the Best Director.
