Lokit Phulwani says that there are a lot of expectations from women. He adds that for a situation to work out, both partners need to support each other.

“There are still societal expectations and structures that often lead women to make sacrifices in their careers to manage childcare and household responsibilities. This can impact their professional trajectories,” Lokit Phulwani says.

He adds, “A supportive partner can play a significant role in someone’s career success by helping manage responsibilities at home, but defining whether it constitutes an equal part can vary based on individual circumstances and the dynamics of the relationship. Support from a partner can undoubtedly contribute positively to one’s career growth.”

Talking about alternative options for women to take care of kids, Lokit Phulwani says, “Access to daycare facilities can indeed provide opportunities for women to continue pursuing their careers while balancing childcare responsibilities. However, the reality in India, as in many other places, involves various factors beyond daycare availability, such as societal expectations, workplace policies, and cultural norms that still influence women’s career advancement while raising children. Progress toward this reality is happening, but it might take time due to the interplay of multiple social, economic, and cultural factors.”
