Director Vinu, one-half of the reknowned filmmaking duo Suresh-Vinu, breathed his last today at a hospital in Coimbatore. He was rushed to the hospital yesterday. The Malayalam film industry is mourning his loss.
Director Vinu had been suffering from abdominal-related ailments for long. He was under treatment for his illness. The director was celebrated for his collaboration with Suresh. The first film directed by Vinu-Suresh was ‘Mangalam Veettil Manasesweri Gupta’ which featured Vani Viswanath and Jayaram in lead roles. The film went on to become widely popular. The duo later directed ‘Kusruthikaatu.’ The screenplay was written by J Pallassery and it was produced by Mani C Kappan.
Suresh-Vinu had last worked on ‘Kanichukulangarayil CBI’ which starred Manoj K Jayan in the lead role. On the solo front, Vinu had dubbed the Assamese version of ‘Meleparambil Aanveedu.’ The film was directed by Rajasenan. The director’s other popular works include ‘Ayushman Bhava’ and ‘Bharthavudyogam.’
Reports mention that he was working on an untitled psychological thriller movie before his death. His last film was Kanichukulangarayil CBI' in 2008.
Vinu is survived by his wife, Anuradha Radhakrishnan, and two children – Nimish and Monica. It has been reported that the cremation has been scheduled for tomorrow at 10:30 AM at the Singanallur Crematorium in Coimbatore. Vinu is from Kozhikode, but he had moved to Coimbatore years ago. It has also been reported that director Suresh will be a part of his funeral rites.
He died at the age of 69.
