Manoj Bajpayee Reveals Having ‘Passing Suicidal Thought’ Post NSD Rejection

Bollywood actor Manoj Bajpayee recently opened up about his struggle with depression and revealed that he had 'suicidal thoughts' in the past.In an interview with ANI, Manoj Bajpayee said that he experienced a phase of sadness after being rejected from the National School of Drama (NSD).

He said that he always wanted to go to NSD after completing his studies and when he was not able to get admission there, it had a deep impact on him. Opening up about the phase, the actor said, "After being rejected, I felt everything was taken away from me because I never had a Plan B. After that for a month my friends supported me and got me out of depression and I started looking for a new path."

He added that he experienced a fleeting suicidal thought and stressed that such thoughts were not uncommon for people who suffer from depression. "I went into such a depression where I didn't know how to face the near and dear ones. And when you only have one plan you feel as if all doors have been closed. It was during this time that I had a passing suicidal thought that people made headlines out of but that wasn't the case, it was just a passing thought that people experience while depressed."

Meanwhile, on the work front, the actor is gearing up for the release of Gulmohar, which also marks veteran actress Sharmila Tagore's OTT debut. Directed by Rahul V Chittella, it is the story of a family who decides to sell their ancestral home.

Besides Manoj Bajpayee and Sharmila Tagore, Gulmohar also stars Suraj Sharma and Amol Palekar in key roles. It is set to stream on Disney+ Hotstar starting March 3.
