Amidst his ongoing case, the jury found actor Jonathan Majors, renowned for playing Kang in the Marvel franchise, guilty of assaulting his ex-girlfriend, British choreographer Grace Jabbari during an altercation in March.
Big corporations like Marvel Studios and Walt Disney have terminated their contracts with Majors not long after he was convicted of assault and harassment.
Majors, who was once on a rising fame, is now on a descent ever since he was arrested on March 26 after the two got into a heated argument on their way to Majors’ residence in New York.
He was convicted on December 18 on the grounds of two of the four offenses that New York prosecutors had charged him with. "Jonathan Majors was found guilty by a Manhattan Criminal Court jury of assault in the third degree and harassment in the second degree," the prosecutor's office said in a statement.
During the trial that lasted two weeks, the jury heard four days of testimony from Jabbari, detailing a physical altercation between the two after she read some romantic messages on Majors’ phone. Upon grabbing the device, Majors allegedly twisted Jabbari's arm, in a way that caused her "excruciating pain," and struck her head, Jabbari told jurors. She also stated that she was left with a fractured finger, bruising, and a cut behind her ear.
Following the altercation, Majors reportedly fled the vehicle, running around Manhattan streets while Jabbari chased him, which was captured in a CCTV footage and presented during the trial.
According to numerous media reports, as the jury was reading the verdict, Majors looked downwards and gave no reaction. "The evidence presented throughout this trial illustrated a cycle of psychological and emotional abuse, and escalating patterns of coercion," Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg said.
In 2021, the former couple met on the set of Marvel's 'Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania,' released a month before Major's arrest. This film marked the beginning of many collaborations between the actor and Marvel, including both seasons of 'Loki' and 'Avengers: The Kang Dynasty,' set to release in May 2026, as reported by Deadline. However, the actor has now been dropped from this role, given the circumstances.
Majors has also appeared in several films, including 'Creed III,' Emmy-nominated 'Lovecraft Country,' and 'Magazine Dreams,' a film presented at the Sundance Film Festival. However, Searchlight Pictures, a Disney-owned distributor, has now pulled the film from its release calendar.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, The Lede Company, Majors’ public relations firm has dropped the actor as their client. He has also been dropped by his managers at Entertainment 360.
Majors is set to be sentenced on February 6, 2024 and will face up to a year in prison.
