'Haddi' trailer was unveiled recently and audiences are blown away by the drastic transformation of Nawazuddin Siddiqui as a transgender. He is playing the titular role in the gritty noir revenge drama. I couldn't take my eyes off Nawaz's look and his performance in the trailer but one thing that touched my heart was the love story of Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub's characters. Zeeshan is playing Nawaz's spouse in 'Haddi'.
This is something Zeeshan haven't played earlier in his career. He took time to say 'yes' to his role not because he was apprehensive about it. He took his time because of dates and everything. Getting to do something that he never played was the reason he gave his nod to it.
Asked if there were any challenges while playing such a character, the 'Scoop' actor said, "There were no challenges as such. When you romance someone, you love that person. I think the whole idea of love is so refined that it is not bound by any gender or anything. So, I think the idea for me was to fall in love with the character that is in front of me".
He added, "I try to understand what would be the process and it is the person that you fall in love with. I read the script once or twice and then Nawaz bhai again, that really helped me. I can see the kind of person he is playing. So, it was easy."
Zeeshan was all praise for Nawazuddin. On working with him, he said, ''He is a great actor and it was such a pleasure working with him''. Further raving the 'Gangs of Wasseypur' actor, he said, "It was very easy and that is why you can see that chemistry between us. We both made each other comfortable and it was like straight away we met and we were there. That was beautiful and I had a great time working with Nawaz bhai and spending time with him on the sets".
Zeeshan also shared that he and Nawaz were comfortable in doing the romantic scenes in 'Haddi'. ''It was actually very smooth and nobody had to do anything in that sense. The first scene that we did was the marriage montage in the court where we were signing. So, we just started improvising and we started playing around there. Both of us were comfortable and we were reacting to each other's reactions and that gave us the comfort like, 'okay, you can just play the character and it will flow. You don't have to think about anything'. That is why I think the chemistry is there in the film,'' said the 'Article 15' actor.
'Haddi' also stars filmmaker Anurag Kashyap. Zeeshan said working with him was fun and added, ''I have known Anurag for past so many years. We don't have much together. We just have one scene where he is talking and I am just sitting. He is a fun person and I really like his cinema. Because of that, I have learned so much from him.''
Directed by Akshat Ajay Sharma, the film also stars Ila Arun, Saurabh Sachdeva, Shridhar Dubey, Rajesh Kumar, Vipin Sharma, and Saharsh Shukla among others. It is all set to premiere on Zee5 on September 7.
