Sohum Shah has shown his evidence of versatility with his amazing portrayals of interesting characters in memorable films. ‘Tumbbad’, ‘Ship Of Theseus’, ‘Maharani’, ‘Talvar’, ‘Simran’ and many others, he has proved his presence in every film or show that he featured in. With every project, he brought a different character performing it with great aplomb, and walking away with accolades from the audience, industry and critics alike.
Needless to say, Sohum has always been a director’s actor, living up to their expectations and performing his characters to the T. No wonder, he remains many filmmakers’ top choice, who have always managed to extract something different each time around from the actor.
"Every director comes with a different vision. As an actor. I always put my best into the character that would justify their vision on the screen. Be it Reema Kagti, Hansal Mehta, Meghna Gulzar, and all such 'good' directors, right from my debut, they all have contributed a lot in sharpening my craft as an actor," says Sohum Shah.
He goes on to add, "Everyone has a different approach and an absolutely different insight which helps me to challenge and unfold my creative intelligence at its best. I genuinely feel so blessed to be associated with such directors and wish to work with some more in the future."
Here are a few such directors who have always given work to Sohum Shah:
Meghna Gulzar (‘Talvar’)
With this Meghna Gulzar's directorial, ‘Talvar’, Sohum Shah went on to explore yet another interesting character. While the actor was seen playing the role of ACP in the film, he was seen sharing screen space with the late legendary actor Irrfan Khan. Irrfan and Sohum’s chemistry onscreen was fantastic, even when they were on opposite sides of the investigation.
Hansal Mehta (‘Simran’)
As Sohum Shah was seen playing Kangana Ranaut's love interest, he was caught up in the midst of the massive controversy. While his character in the film was of great relevance that drove the main story of the film, this was Sohum's first experience with the critically-acclaimed director Hansal Mehta that paid him huge dividends as an actor. Sadly, the film got marred down by the controversy around whether or not Kangana Ranaut should be given the writer’s credit.
Reema Kagti (‘Dahaad’)
Sohum Shah’s choices of films in the past have always been a little unconventional with distinct narratives. No wonder, he was the chosen one by the maverick Reema Kagti for ‘Dahaad’. While the project brings him back to the OTT space post the super success of ‘Maharani’, Sohum is eagerly awaiting the release of the same as he had to undergo a major physical transformation for his role.
