Seema Ghulam Haider and Sachin Meena in a way prove that love knows no boundary. In the news recently, Seema, a Pakistani married woman, who fell in love with Sachin, an Indian, travelled all the way here to reunite with him. They met over an online game. From being detained for illegal immigration, and facing allegations that she must be a spy, to getting married, this love story seems to have touched many. Now, reportedly, a film is being made on the love story, which sort of reminds us of 'Gadar’s Tara Singh landing up in Pakistan to win over his lady love Sakine. Actor-turned-humanitarian Somy Ali, who now runs her NGO, No More Tears, speaks on it.
“I couldn't have been more proud of Sunny Deol than I am today after reading his sentiments on politicians separating both nations and spreading hate. He is added to my list of real-life heroes. If all of us protested and preached the same message, Seema Haider wouldn't have to lie and be deemed to be an illegal individual today because no human being should or can be illegal. I have always said that it's the politicians, not the civilians who have created and spread this message of hate resulting in countless and superfluous deaths. It's simply preposterous and these politicians go after the inhabitants in rural areas who lack education to fill their minds with hate. This is when riots take place and heinous crimes occur including the murders of newborns, women and men,” she says.
A diversionary foreign policy, or a diversionary war, is an international relations term that identifies a war instigated by a country's leader in order to distract its population from their own domestic strife, shares Somy.
She adds, “This is exactly what these so-called leaders aim for and they have been winning with this strategy since the partition in 1947. Nothing makes me sadder than knowing that my father and my grandparents were born in Bombay because there was no Pakistan and I am a criminal simply by my mother giving birth to me in Pakistan. It's sickening and the height of illiteracy when it comes to the fact that there is still hate between India and Pakistan and the politicians are simply adding fuel to the fire. While they sit back and enjoy the show which is nothing, but war, hatred, rape, and murders committed by both sides for absolutely no reason.”
Talking more about Deol, she says, “I salute Sunny as a Pakistani born and my respect for him has grown to an unprecedented level for having made these statements. Thank you, Sunny, for sharing wisdom with many illiterates and literates whose hearts are still filled with hatred over land and religion. I wish more celebrities from both countries would take a stand and create so much noise that their voices alone would rip the borderline to shreds. What an unfathomable revolution would that be for all of us to witness. I was always a huge fan of Dharam ji's (Dharmendra) sentiments on this matter and now I know where Sunny gets it from. Hats off to Sunny for saying what he stated and I sincerely hope others pick up his cue and start speaking the same language as he did. As he stated, 'Akhir hai to sab issi mitti se'. As for my two cents, let's not forget we are all Indians because initially there was no Pakistan. It is simply a game played by the politicians to pin one against the other and nothing else.”
