The Tamil cinema industry is in grief after the tragic death of acclaimed filmmaker Surya Prakash. Surya Prakash was well known for his work on the highly acclaimed film ‘Maayi’. He died of a massive heart attack.
Surya Prakash’s directorial debut, 'Manikkam', was not a success, but his sophomore film, ‘Maayi’, starring Sarathkumar and Meena, propelled him to stardom. The film, which was praised for its rooted plot and compelling acting, remains a landmark rural drama in Tamil cinema.
The news of his sudden passing has shocked his colleagues and followers. Veteran actor Sarathkumar, who played the lead in ‘Maayi’, took to social media to express his sadness and pay respect to the filmmaker.
Sarathkumar wrote, “The news that my dear friend Suryaprakash, who directed me in the hit films Maayi and Diwan has joined the Lord early this morning is shocking and painful. Having spoken to him even yesterday, his sudden demise in this volatile life has left me with a heavy heart. My deepest condolences to his family and friends who are grieving his loss. I pray to God to rest his soul in peace.”
Surya Prakash has also directed Sarathkumar in ‘Diwan’, ‘Bharata Simha Reddy’, ‘Adhibar’, and ‘Varusanadu’, which is yet to be released.
