Popular Bengali actor Tota Roy Choudhury who won audiences' hearts for his role as Chandan Chatterjee in ‘Rocky Aur Rani ki Prem Kahaani’ is all set to play a lawyer in Hoichoi’s ‘Jaha Bolibo Shotto Bolibo’. The show was recently announced by the Bengali OTT giant. Ahead of the announcement of the courtroom drama series, we had a freewheeling conversation with Tota where he spoke at length about the show, his character and more.

Tota said, ''The role that I play is very interesting. He was a legend when he was a public prosecutor and there was a reason that seven years back he changed sides and today he is one of the most efficient defence lawyers and he can go to any dense to save his clients. So, why this sudden shift of priorities and what this person do when he meets the protagonist in court which is played by Mimi Chakraborty and how do we face off in court and what transpired. The whole social fabric of the society in general is also exposed. It exposes it as a back story and also as the main story. There is a layer to the storytelling and a layer to my character which I found very interesting. The script is very well written and given the parameters of six-eight episodes, we are telling a whole story with different layers. I found it very interesting.''

The actor revealed that he always reads the script before he says yes. But he makes exceptions when the offers come from his favourite director.

On how he prepared for his role, the 'Chokher Bali' actor said, ''Because of something that has happened in the near past I got to meet a few lawyers in real life and I observed them. I found that they have two personas. One is the persona that they take while they are in court and the other is their private life. Their whole speech demeanour, the way they walk, the way they speak and the way they express themselves, are dramatically and diametrically different. I found that fascinating and that is what I tried to incorporate in the characterisation of the character that I am playing.''

‘Jaha Bolibo Shotto Bolibo’ is directed by Chandrasish Ray. On the director, Tota added, ''The way he visualises keeping it very real and not giving to those dramatic courtroom scenes that we used to see in various movies across the decades''.
