Several films like 'Jawan', 'Gadar 2' and 'Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire' have managed to break box office records in India and worldwide. Be it Shah Rukh Khan's Pathaan and Jawan to Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal, there has been no looking back for Bollywood. In fact, it is touted that the total revenue of Indian films released in 2023 has been more than Rs 10,000 crore this year.

Rocky aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, which released in theaters on July 28, 2023, features Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh in the lead roles along with Bollywood veterans Dharmendra, Jaya Bachchan and Shabana Azmi. Helmed by Karan Johar, the film collected ₹182.8 crore in India and ₹172.8 crore overseas.
‘Adipurush’ | Worldwide Collection : ₹410.5 crore
The film, starring Prabhas and Kriti Sanon, is based on the epic Ramayana. However, the Om Raut directorial received a lot of criticism for VFX and dialogues. Nonetheless, it collected ₹349.3 crore in India, and also starred Saif Ali Khan and Sunny Singh in key roles.
‘Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire’ | Worldwide Collection - ₹428.5 crore*
Prabhas' Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire, which was released worldwide this Friday (December 22), managed to break several box office records on its first day itself. The film directed by K.G.F fame Prashanth Neel has minted ₹330.9 crore* in India, according to IMDB. It also features Prithviraj Sukumaran and Shruti Haasan, and is still running in theaters.
‘Tiger 3’ | Worldwide Collection - ₹466.4 crore
Directed by Maneesh Sharma, the fifth installment in the YRF Spy Universe, including the Tiger series, WAR, and Pathaan, hit the silver screens on November 12, 2023. The film revolves around Avinash Singh Rathore aka Tiger (Salman Khan) and Zoya (Katrina Kaif) getting framed as traitors by a terrorist, who wants to destroy the duo. Apart from Salman and Katrina, Emraan Hashmi, Kumud Mishra and Revathy also feature in the film, which collected ₹342.9 crore in India, and ₹123.5 crore in overseas markets.
‘Jailer’ | Worldwide Collection - ₹605.8 crore
Rajinikanth's action comedy film Jailer, which released on August 10, is based on a retired jailer who seeks to apprehend an idol smuggler. The Nelson Dilipkumar directorial emerged to be a major box office success, and collected ₹413.5 crore in India, and ₹192.3 crore in the overseas market.
‘Leo’ | Worldwide Collection - ₹615.6 crore
Lokesh Kanagaraj's Tamil action thriller film Leo, starring Vijay in the lead, is about the journey of a cafe owner and animal rescuer in Theog. He is pursued by gangsters Antony and Harold since they suspect him to be Antony's estranged son, Leo. The film also starred Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Sarja, and Trisha, and collected ₹411.9 crore in India, and over ₹203.7 crore in the overseas market.
‘Gadar 2’ | Worldwide Collection - ₹690.2 crore
The film, a sequel to Gadar: Ek Prem Katha, marked the return of Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel as Tara Singh and Sakeena. Directed by Anil Sharma, the film was released on August 11, and focused around the India-Pakistan war of 1971. Gadar 2 marked Sunny’s successful return to the cinema, and collected ₹624.7 crore in India and ₹65.5 crore from overseas.
‘Animal’ | Worldwide Collection - ₹880.9 crore*
Released on December 1, the Ranbir Kapoor-starrer Animal emerged to be a commercial success. The Sandeep Reddy Vanga directorial has collected a whopping ₹639.5* crore in India, with a gross overseas collection of ₹241.4 core*. It also starred Anil Kapoor, Bobby Deol, Rashmika Mandanna, and Tripti Dimri. The film is still running in theaters.
‘Pathaan’ | Worldwide Collection - ₹1,050.3 crore
Released on January 25, the Siddharth Anand directorial marked the comeback of the 'Badshah of Bollywood', Shah Rukh Khan. It collected ₹654.28 crore in India, and ₹396.02 from the overseas market. Besides Shah Rukh, the film also had Deepika Padukone, John Abraham, Dimple Kapadia, and Ashutosh Rana in key roles.
‘Jawan’ | Worldwide Collection - ₹1,150.7 crore
Directed by Atlee, the film hit the silver screens on September 7. The Shah Rukh Khan-starrer remains the highest-grossing Indian film in 2023. ‘Jawan’ collected ₹764.3 crore in India, and ₹386.4 overseas. The high-octane drama starred Nayanthara, Vijay Sethupathi, Deepika Padukone and Sanya Malhotra.
