2019 Ford Figo to get new 1.2-litre, 3-cyl petrol engine from the Freestyle with an output of 96PS and 120Nm.
Updated cosmetics from the Freestyle and Aspire - new headlamps, revised taillamps, revised front and rear bumper, new grille and new 15-inch alloys.
Feature update to include new 6.5-inch display for Ford SYNC3 infotainment system and new central dash console layout.
Ford has another model update lined up for launch and perhaps the last one for the 2018-19 financial year - the Figo facelift. The updated Figo hatchback is now confirmed to launch in March. However, Ford is yet to announce the exact date.
Apart from cosmetic updates like the new headlights, revised taillamps, revised bumpers, new front grille and new 15-inch alloys that were first seen on the Ford Freestyle, the new Figo will also receive the new 1.2-litre dragon petrol engine. This 3-cylinder engine debuted on the Ford Freestyle and makes 96PS of power and 120Nm of torque while mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. In comparison to the 1.2-litre unit that was on offer on the Figo before, this engine makes 8PS more power and 8Nm more torque.
The diesel engine will be the same 1.5-litre unit that produces 100PS and 215Nm, which will also be mated to a 5-speed manual. The automatic variant of the updated Ford Figo is likely to be equipped with the 1.5-litre, 3-cylinder Dragon series petrol engine shared by the Aspire and the EcoSport. It will be mated to a 6-speed torque convertor like in the other two cars. The pre-facelift Figo was available with a dual-clutch automatic transmission with the older 1.5-litre (112PS/136Nm) engine. The new engine makes 11PS and 14Nm more than the older engine.
In terms of interiors and features, the new Figo is expected to get the same updates that were seen on the 2018 Aspire facelift. Ford is likely to retain the all-black interior while updating the layout of the centre console that will now feature a 6.5-inch SYNC3 touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity options. As far as safety is concerned, Ford is likely to offer dual-front airbags, rear parking sensors and ABS with EBD as standard this time around. The top-spec variant is expected to pack six airbags and a rear parking camera as well.
Whether Ford will introduce an S variant of the 2019 Figo is not yet confirmed. The current Figo is priced between Rs 5.83 lakh to Rs 8.46 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The 2019 Figo is expected to have a lower starting price of around Rs 5.1 lakh, with the top-spec variant with the AT gearbox being priced similarly at around Rs 8.5 lakh. Once launched, it will renew its rivalry with the likes of the Hyundai Grand i10 and Maruti Suzuki Swift.
