Latest update: Hyundai Venue official bookings are now open

Hyundai’s new sub-compact SUV, the Venue, is ready for its launch this month on 21 May. But what we’ve seen so far is the top-spec Hyundai Venue and it’s imperative that the fully loaded version of the SUV manages to turn heads. While we have seen the top-spec model, let us check what the lower-spec model would look like. A lower-spec Venue has recently been spotted and it appears to be the base-spec model of the sub-4m SUV.

While it doesn’t really look stripped out, there are noticeable differences compared to the range-topping model. The front grille of the entry-level Hyundai Venue looks unchanged, featuring chrome inserts, but the bumper-integrated headlamps are multi reflector units instead of the cornering projector ones with DRLs. The projector fog lamps have been given a miss too.

The side profile reveals the fender-mounted turn indicators instead of finding their place on the outside rearview mirrors. The chrome door handles make way for body-coloured units with just a keyhole instead of the keyless entry button. The Venue pictured here appears to be riding on 15-inch steel wheels with full-size caps instead of 16-inch machine finish alloys on the top-spec. Instead of a shark fin antenna, it offers a regular short stubby antenna. The roof rails, however, are there just like the range topping model.

At the rear, the lower-spec Hyundai Venue misses out on a rear washer, wiper as well as deminster, and even the chunky Venue nameplate. The tail lamps and bumper-mounted reverse lights all look the same as the top of the line version. However, the tail lamps appears to be regular incandescent units compared to LED with diffused lighting effect on the range-topping model.

Another picture of the Venue shows the SUV side by side with the Maruti Vitara Brezza. The Hyundai does look visibly smaller than the Maruti and that’s because it is in terms of width and height. Take a look at the specification comparison for a lucid explanation.

Given the misses on the outside, this version of the Venue is also expected to miss out on a touchscreen, climate control, among a few others. But safety features on this base variant should comprise of dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, speed alert system, and driver and front passenger seat belt alert.

Hyundai will offer a choice of two petrol engines: one is a 1.2-litre, four-cylinder petrol(83PS/115Nm) and the other a new 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged unit(120PS/170Nm). While the 1.2 engine comes paired with a 5-speed manual, the smaller turbo petrol gets a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed dual clutch transmission. The only diesel option is the 1.4-litre unit from the Verna and Creta, good for 90PS and 220Nm of torque, coupled with a 6-speed manual transmission.

Prices of the Hyundai Venue are expected to stay in the range of Rs 7.5 lakh and Rs 12 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). This puts it in firing range with the Mahindra XUV300, Ford EcoSport, Tata Nexon and Maruti Vitara Brezza.
