Expect AMT to be offered from mid-spec W6 variant onwards at a starting price of Rs 9.5 lakh for the petrol and Rs 10 lakh for the diesel.
Rivals such as Brezza and Nexon offer AMT variants too, while EcoSport gets a torque converter.
Currently, the new XUV300 comes with a 6-speed manual only.
Mahindra’s latest entry in the sub-4m compact SUV, the XUV300, is priced from Rs 7.9 lakh to Rs 11.99 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). It is offered with a choice of a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol and a 1.5-litre diesel engine, both of which come mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. While there was no AMT at launch, an automatic variant of the Mahindra XUV300 has already been spied.
The manufacturer confirmed that an automatic transmission-equipped variant will be introduced later this year and will be offered with both petrol and diesel engines. The 1.5-litre diesel engine offered in the XUV300 is the same as what’s offered in the Marazzo MPV which is also expected to get an AMT option, but not before 2020.
Currently, the XUV300 rivals the likes of the Maruti Vitara Brezza, Tata Nexon, Ford EcoSport and the Honda WR-V. The Brezza is only available with a diesel engine, but it does get an AMT option, while the Nexon gets a 6-speed AMT for both petrol and diesel variants. Meanwhile, the EcoSport gets a torque convertor AT, but only with the petrol engine, whereas the WR-V only comes with a manual transmission.
When the AMT option is introduced for the Mahindra XUV300, we expect it to only be available from the mid-spec W6 variant onwards with prices starting around Rs 9.5 lakh for the petrol and Rs 10 lakh for the diesel. Here’s how the XUV300 AMT is expected to fare against its rivals on the price chart.
