- Rear parking sensors to be offered as standard, right from the base Sigma variant.
- Standard safety kit to include rear parking sensors, speed warning, dual airbags and ABS with EBD.
- There won’t be any cosmetic changes with the update.
Maruti-Suzuki will be updating the Ignis this month to make it compliant with the upcoming safety norms. As a result, rear parking sensors and the speed alert system will join the list of standard safety features. Currently, the Ignis gets dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, seatbelt pretensioners with force limiters and ISOFIX child seat anchors as standard. The rear parking sensors are currently available in the top two variants only, whereas the rear parking camera is only available in the top Alpha variant. Along with these updates, there could also be a minor feature shuffle among the variants.
While the rear parking sensors will definitely add value to the Ignis’ base variant and will allow people to park and manoeuvre out of tight spaces with ease, the speed alert system can get a bit annoying on the highways. But, that's exactly why it’s effective. The system beeps once when you cross 80kmph with at least one beep per two minutes post that, and then beeps constantly when you reach the 120kmph mark, forcing you to drive within the speed limit. All new cars (big or small) from mid-2019 will have this feature as standard.
The Maruti Ignis is only available with a 1.2-litre petrol engine, but offers an AMT option in all but the base variant. Prices for the Ignis start from Rs 4.66 lakh and go upt Rs 7.05 lakh (both prices, ex-showroom Delhi). We expect Maruti to include these features in the lower two variants without increasing the prices.
