The Altroz will be offered with a petrol, diesel as well as an electric powertrain.
Diesel engine could be the same 1.5-litre unit found under the Nexon’s bonnet.
1.2-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine will get a choice of 5-speed MT and AMT.
Altroz’ petrol and diesel versions will be launched by June 2019.
Altroz EV likely to make its debut by September 2020.
Contrary to our earlier report, it appears that Tata’s upcoming premium hatchback, the Altroz, won’t just be a petrol and EV model. We now have confirmation from Tata Motors that a diesel Altroz is also in the works.
Speaking on the sidelines of the 2019 Geneva Motor Show, Rajendra M Petkar, President and chief technical officer of Tata Motors, said, “We will have a gasoline (petrol) and a diesel option; its focus will be on performance.”
So, the Altroz won’t just be a premium hatchback offering, it also promises to deliver punchy performance. For now, Tata Motors has confirmed the specifications of only the petrol engine. Details of the diesel engine are yet to be revealed.
Petrol Engine Specs:
As for the diesel engine, Tata could opt for the Nexon’s 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder unit. Check out its specifications below.
If Tata decides to opt for this engine and retain the same state of tune, it could make the Altroz one of the most powerful offerings in its segment.
Petrol and diesel engines aside, Tata has confirmed an all-electric version of the Altroz too. It is likely to be launched by September 2020. The Altroz EV will offer a range of 250-300km per charge to lay claim on being India’s first long-range electric car.
This would also make the Tata Altroz the only Indian hatchback to be offered with a petrol, diesel and an electric powertrain.
