Classic Legends has been trending in the news this past week with the launch of the Jawa brand and its three bikes: the Jawa, the Jawa 42 and the Perak. Now that is not the only big news to come from the event: The head honchos at Classic Legends have confirmed that they will be introducing Yezdi as well as BSA in India in the coming years.
When acquiring the brands in 2016, Classic Legends had specifically stated that BSA would solely be for export markets while we in India would have to be content with just Jawa. However, over the past two years their product strategy and planning has changed. This has facilitated the possibility of new generation of BSA motorcycles to be launched in India. Yes, you read that right, the British legend will be sold here in India. Hopefully, Classic Legends will do justice to the names like Bantam and Gold Star, iconic popular products from the yesteryears of BSA. And since a brand like BSA commands more respect, the motorcycles will operate in the middleweight to big capacity segment.
While BSA will be entirely about bigger, meaner machines, Classic Legend has promised us that the famed Yezdi brand will also make a comeback. Yezdi purists will let you know that their bikes were more than just slap-on jobs on existing Jawa motorcycles as they catered to a different niche altogether. With the rights to the name belonging to Boman Irani, one of the partners in the Classic Legends initiative and also the Chairman and MD of the Rustomjee Group, it was but obvious that Yezdi wouldn’t be left out of the Classic Legends portfolio.
It is still a bit too soon to answer questions like what bikes will they make, what will be their names or when can we expect them. But for sure we can see them arriving in India by 2020 if not sooner.
