Incoming: Mahindra Electric Motorcycle?

Mahindra has not tasted much success in the two-wheeler space but it has been going strong in the electric mobility segment. It is one of the few manufacturers in India to sell all-electric cars, and its subsidiary Pininfarina is in the process of designing an all-electric hypercar. Heck, Mahindra even sells the GenZe electric scooter in the USA. What if Mahindra is looking into the electric two-wheeler space in India?

Images have surfaced of a Mojo at a testing facility in Bangalore. What's interesting about this bike is that it has a belt drive and misses a gear shift lever, indicating its an automatic. Both of these are common features on an electric two-wheeler. The engine bay is fully enclosed and the lack of an exhaust pipe could mean that the engine bay encloses a battery pack.

Could this mean Mahindra is planning an electric version of the Mojo? That could be true but then again it is quite possible that Mahindra is using the Mojo’s running chassis to develop an all-new electric motorcycle.

Mahindra currently sells the Mojo in two variants: XT300 and UT300. The XT300 is the more premium version, with LED DRL’s, twin exhaust pipes, upside down front forks and Pirelli tyres. It retails at Rs 1.63 lakh (ex-Delhi). For Rs 23,000 less you can opt for a pared-down version that misses out on the LED DRL’s and instead gets a single exhaust, conventional front forks and MRF tyres.

Both get the same 295cc liquid-cooled and fuel-injected single-cylinder motor that makes 23.11PS and 25Nm of torque, mated to a six-speed gearbox.
