Favourites France will go up against inconsistent Belgium for a spot in the quarterfinals
France will aim to reclaim their European throne as they face Belgium in the round of 16 in Dusseldorf’s Merkur Spiel Arena on July 1. After finishing second in Group D, France will look to put up a much-improved performance against heavyweights Belgium, who have plenty to sort out aswell.
Both teams have had similar campaigns as they finished second in their respective groups and didn’t look convincing enough in the group-stage fixtures. France started their Euros with a 1-0 win over Austria, courtesy of an own goal and then they registered two drab draws against the Netherlands and Poland. Meanwhile, Belgium were on the back foot with their defeat against Slovakia. They did roar back in form with a convincing win over Romania but played a dull 0-0 stalemate against Ukraine. France may still start this fixture as firm favourites but Belgium will aim for some intent which was majorly missing in their preceding match.

France to win the match – Parimatch @ 1.92, BET HERE
Despite Belgium having a pretty strong lineup, France will take the field in Dusseldorf as favourites. They have star players all across the pitch and with Mbappe back in the running, Les Blues are one of the contenders to go the distance. Belgium will try to spoil the party but we expect Didier Deschamps’ men to soar through.
Both teams to score two goals – 1xbet @ 2.03, BET HERE
Both teams have struggled to score goals in their three group-stage encounters. While Les Blues are yet to find the target from open play, Belgium have only scored twice against Romania. However, we expect both teams to find the net in the pre-quarterfinal, especially looking at the firepower they both possess.
Kylian Mbappe to score a goal – Stake @ 4.50, BET HERE
Mbappe has been a talisman for France and his availability created the difference for them against Poland, though they could only register a 1-1 draw against them. Mbappe finally opened his account at the Euros by dispatching a spot-kick. We expect him to find the net against Belgium, this time from open play.

France vs Belgium: Head-to-Head Record
France and Belgium have faced each other a total of 75 times in the past. The Red Devils are France’s most frequent all-time opponent. They have faced Belgium nearly twice as much as any other opponent (39 meetings against Italy and Switzerland).
Overall, the Red Devils have the historic edge over Les Blues, winning 30 matches. France have triumphed 26 times with 19 matches ending in draws.
However, France have won all four of their previous matches against Belgium at a major tournament. Their only meeting at the Euro was back in 1984 when France thumped Belgium 5-0 in the group stage.
France
France have continued to play the pragmatic style of football under Didier Deschamps. There was a slight injury worry around Kylian Mbappe after he broke his nose against Austria. They missed him dearly in the second match against the Netherlands. Overall, France have an excellent structure in midfield and defence and it will be tough for Belgium to break it down. Players like N’Golo Kante, Aurélien Tchouaméni, Theo Hernandez, etc have stepped up on the big stage.
However, they will need to be more clinical upfront against Belgium. Mbappe will probably start and we may see a change in formation from Deschamps. Les Blues also need Antoine Griezmann to provide that creative output from midfield.
Belgium
Domenic Tedesco’s men were given a wake-up call when they lost against Slovakia in their opening match. However, they rediscovered their attacking touch when they defeated Romania 2-0. But things changed very quickly when they played a 0-0 stalemate against Ukraine. They were second-best in their final group game and credit to Koen Casteels that they managed to draw the game.
Tedesco needs to find solutions in attack and a quick transformation is required for them to challenge France’s resolute defence. The Red Devils will once again look at the duo of Romelu Lukaku and Kevin de Bruyne to find a way past France.

France may edge past Belgium
Given the stability and quality on paper all across the field, we expect France to head into the match as favourites over Belgium. Both teams have equally struggled to score goals and it can be a very high-voltage fixture for the viewers. But we expect France’s extra bit of quality to help them see off the Red Devils.
