A second edition is always a proud moment for an author. But veteran author Khushwant Singh came in for a nasty surprise recently when an admirer presented a new edition of a book he'd almost forgotten about—a coffeetabler called The Sikhs published by Roli Books. And as if no permission and no money weren't bad enough news, another nasty shock popped out when he opened the book: a full-page photograph of a Sikh Khushwant openly despises: Patwant Singh. Roli's last resort when Khushwant wrote to his publisher: silence.

Rude Mood
What does an author do when the publisher sends him a computer printout of mystifying figures instead of a royalty cheque? Khushwant Singh has a simple solution: he sent the printout back to the errant publisher with three terse words: "Stop bamboozling me."
