To a child, it's just a wonderful story. Now I see more in Alice: the sadness, the nightmare quality of many of the images.
I think Alice was one of the great children's books for many people in my generation, just as Harry Potter will be the Alice in Wonderland of the new generation. There's so much to it: the quality of the writing, the imagery, the entire world that Carroll created. It's a book that you carry around in your head. That's a thought-maybe I should do a series of Alice paintings next!
