This week we remembered Gita Gopinath
Mysore-born Gita Gopinath has been appointed as an economic advisor to the Kerala chief minister, setting off a storm in the ‘left’ teacup. Gopinath has clarified her role is of an “advisory” nature and she wants to help her home state. Gopinath’s father is from Mayyil and her mother from Kuttiattoor in Kannur district. Her area of interest, economies in crisis, will come in handy for Kerala. Sources say Gopinath may have been roped in to clip Kerala finance minister T.M. Thomas Isaac’s wings. Before the assembly election in May, Isaac, an economist himself, was even seen as one of the three probable CM candidates in the CPI(M).
