We’re talking of SMS: short, sweet and inexpensive, and threatening to become the most popular universal language soon. After a series of highly-effective visual ads (hoardings and print), Essar Telecom & Penguin Books have come out with a booklet to help those with itchy fingers (and a cellphone) keep in touch, query, joke, advise, and do all those things which can’t be possibly done from afar. Divided into sections like emotions, ringing rhymes, wise words and so on, it also has a few pretty pix "which can be done only on a Nokia cellphone" and will probably take an hour! TEVM(Thank Essar very much) and rush to collect.

Running Aground
Is the first family of the Indian shipping industry, the Sheths of the Great Eastern Shipping, split over future plans? Managing directors Bharat Sheth and Vijay Seth want massive diversification into LNG vessels and VLCSS (very large crude carriers) and even shipbuilding, since India does not have too many world-class yards for construction of vessels. But the older generation, led by chairman Kanubhai M. Sheth and deputy chairman (and noted economist) Sudhir Mulji, wants the company to stick to the knitting. Generation gap, you’d say? Or is it sensible thinking in depressed times?
