An Indian student was brutally attacked in Australia by Khalistani supporters while he was on his way to work. The injured student was taken to Westmead Hospital in Sydney’s western suburb of Merrylands.
The student was on his way to work when a mob of Khalistani supporters attacked him with iron rods. He was struck with a rod on the left side of his face. “I work as a driver and my vehicle was parked just 50 metres from where I live. As soon as I sat in my driving seat these Khalistan supporters came out of nowhere. One of them opened the left side door of my vehicle and hit me with an iron road on my cheekbone under my left eye,” the student was quoted as saying by the Australia Today.
While they beat him, they chanted ‘Khalistan Zindabad’ slogans and some from the mob started recording the incident, the student further said. Condemning the attack, Andrew Charlton, federal member of Parliament for Parramatta said that the situation would be monitored. “There is no place in our local community for extremism or violence of any kind. People should be safe and secure in our community. I have contacted the relevant authorities regarding this incident and will monitor the situation as it unfolds,” Charlton was quoted as by the Australia Today.
Earlier too, incidents of attacks against Indians living abroad have come to light. A 28-year-old Indian student was hospitalised in a critical condition after being stabbed multiple times to his face, chest and abdomen in Australia in October last year. The victim's family had alleged that the incident was a "racial attack" and urged the Indian government to provide assistance.
