Shawn Mendes, since his initial single releases and debut album releases has become a household name not only in USA and Canada but worldwide. On the occasion of the singer’s 25th birthday, here’s a shoutout to his latest June 2023 release What The Hell Are We Dying For?
Shawn Mendes started like every other aspiring musician does — by singing song covers. His Vine cover of Justin Bieber’s As Long As You Love Me brought him overnight fame. His online audience grew and people became curious about this young musician. Since then, he has only grown in popularity as a musician.
Since his last studio album release Wonder in 2020, he has not yet released any new albums. The singer also cancelled his last world tour in the middle of touring citing mental health reasons. He has worked on several singles such as It’ll Be Okay (2021), When You’re Gone (2022) and lent his voice as the titular character for the hybrid live-action, computer-animated musical Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile along with making a soundtrack for the same.
Among all the singles Mendes released since 2020, his most recent June 2023 release What The Hell Are We Dying For? stands out the most for a particular reason. The song stems from the tragedy of the East Coast wildfire in June this year. Although critics speculate that the song is connected to the singer’s break-up with Camila Cabello, the singer claims it is rooted in the recent tragedy of the June 2023 Canadian wildfires.
Mendes had also opened up about feeling “confused” about this phase of his life and going through a quarter-life crisis but says he is ready to make new music. The Treat You Better singer was on a hiatus after cancelling his 2022 world tours but seems to be gearing up for a new album release.
The multi-award singer is known for his charisma and determination alike. As a young achiever, he has earlier nodded to giving acting a try. With melodious tunes to his name, we only wish to see the singer shine bright with his next project — whether it is music or singing.
