The City of Parramatta Council in Sydney, New South Wales, has elected Councillor Sameer Pandey as its new Lord Mayor, making him the first Lord Mayor of Indian origin in the City's history. With a background in IT, Pandey brings extensive experience to oversee major projects such as the redevelopment of the aquatic center, town hall, and Riverside Theatre.

Expressing gratitude for the privilege to lead one of Australia's fastest-growing centers, Pandey emphasized the City of Parramatta's importance as the geographical heart of Greater Sydney and a thriving economic powerhouse. He aims to solidify Parramatta's position as Sydney's second CBD (central business district), fostering vibrant opportunities for the community.

Donna Davis stepped down from the role of Lord Mayor after being elected as the State Member for Parramatta. She will continue serving as a councillor until the next local government elections in September 2024. A new Deputy Lord Mayor will be elected in June.

Pandey's appointment as Lord Mayor coincided with the arrival of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Sydney for a two-day visit, further highlighting the significance of the occasion.

As a small business owner and advocate for smart city initiatives, Pandey is dedicated to meeting the needs of the community and positioning the City of Parramatta for continued growth and success, the press release stated.
