Clashes between Israeli forces and Palestinian fighters intensified in the southern city of Khan Younis in Gaza, prompting thousands of Palestinians to flee even further south.
Medical sources report that at least 65 people were killed in the besieged southern city of Khan Younis by Israel on Monday. Israeli forces target hospitals, ambulances, and schools where thousands of civilians are sheltering.
The war has displaced approximately 85 per cent of Gaza's 2.3 million residents, with one in four facing starvation, according to the United Nations.
At least 25,295 people have been killed and 63,000 wounded in Israeli attacks on Gaza since October 7. The death toll in Israel from the October 7 Hamas attack stands at 1,139.
As the war reaches day 109, here are the updates:
1. Ceasefire Proposal: Israel, through Qatari and Egyptian mediators, has proposed a comprehensive deal to halt the fighting in Gaza for up to two months. Israel has proposed allowing Hamas senior leaders to leave Gaza as part of a broader ceasefire agreement, two officials familiar with the discussions told CNN.
2. Twenty-One Israeli Soldiers Killed in Central Gaza: The Israeli military on Tuesday reported that 21 soldiers were killed in an attack in central Gaza. The soldiers were preparing explosives to demolish two homes in central Gaza on Monday when a militant fired a rocket-propelled grenade at a nearby tank, triggering the blast, as reported by AP, citing Israeli media.
3. Khan Younis Casualties: Israeli forces have reportedly killed at least 65 people in Khan Younis, with reports of "systematic destruction." Troops advanced into the al-Mawasi district near the Mediterranean Coast, "storming the Al-Khair hospital and arresting the medical staff," as per news agency Reuters.
4. US Call for Protection: The United States has called for Israel to protect innocent people in hospitals, medical staff, and patients. This comes as Israeli forces advanced deep into western Khan Younis in Gaza.
White House National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said on Monday that Israel had a right to defend itself but added: "We expect them to do so in accordance with international law and to protect innocent people in hospitals, medical staff and patients as well, as much as possible."
5. Strikes on Houthis: The United States and Britain launched new strikes on Yemen's Houthis on Monday, saying their second round of joint military action against the Iran-backed rebels was in response to continued attacks on Red Sea shipping.
6. Gaza Internet Blackout: Gaza faces its 10th near-total internet blackout, according to Paltel, Gaza's main telecommunications provider. "We regret to announce that telecom services in Gaza Strip have been lost. Gaza is blacked out again for the 10th time since October 7th due to the ongoing and escalating aggression," Paltel said in a post on X.
7. Protest in Jerusalem: Relatives of Israelis held hostage by Palestinian gunmen in Gaza disrupted a parliamentary committee session in Jerusalem, demanding more efforts for their release. The action by about 20 people signalled growing domestic dissent in the fourth month of the Gaza war against Hamas.
8. Saudi Arabia will not normalise relations with Israel: Saudi Arabia's top diplomat, Prince Faisal bin Farhan, said that the kingdom will not normalise relations with Israel or contribute to Gaza's reconstruction without a credible pathway to a Palestinian state. Prince Faisal bin Farhan’s remarks in an interview with CNN broadcast late Sunday were some of the most direct yet from Saudi officials.
