A 6.7 magnitude earthquake jolted the Talaud Islands of Indonesia on Tuesday, according to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS). However, no immediate reports of loss of life or property damage have been reported in the region.
According to the NCS, the epicenter of the quake was found to be at Latitude: 4.75 and Longitude: 126.38, respectively and occurred at a depth of 80 km. "Earthquake of Magnitude:6.7, Occurred on 09-01-2024, 02:18:47 IST, Lat: 4.75 & Long: 126.38, Depth: 80 Km ,Location: Talaud Islands, Indonesia," the NCS posted on X.
Deadly earthquakes in Japan
Last week, a massive earthquake of 7.6 on the Richter scale jolted Japan on New Year's Day and caused massive damage to life and property.
At least 100 people were killed with more than 200 people still missing in the country's deadliest quake in nearly eight years.
The earthquake that struck Japan's west coast destroyed infrastructure, leaving 23,000 homes without power in the Hokuriku region.
