Russian President Vladimir Putin reached China on Tuesday to meet his Chinese counterpart and a close ally Xi Jinpingin a bid to strengthen the bilateral relationship between China and Russia. Putin will be attending a summit as China is all set to welcome diplomats from 130 countries for a forum of President Xi's landmark project, the Belt and Road Initiative.
Putin's visit to China is considered as the first trip to a major global power since the Ukraine invasion.
As per media reports, his plane landed in China just before 09:30 am.
Kremlin confirmed that Putin was due to meet Xi for talks on Wednesday, the Kremlin said.
"During the talks, special attention will be paid to international and regional issues," it said, without elaborating.
