The Philippines' Mayon Volcano Erupts, Displaces Thousands

The eruption of the Mayon Volcano in the Phillippines has led to the displacement of thousands of people. Officials have said that 18,000 people are sheltering away from their homes and this could last for months and become a protracted crisis. The 2,462-meter Mayon is a top tourist draw in the Philippines because of its picturesque conical shape but is the most active of 24 known volcanoes in the archipelago.
