Two consecutive earthquakes within a period of 30 minutes jolted Afghanistan on Wednesday. According to the National Center for Seismology (NCS), the first earthquake had a magnitude of 4.4 and occurred at 12:28 am 100 km east of Fayzabad.
The second quake, with a magnitude of 4.8, struck at 12:55 am, 126 km east of Fayzabad.
As per media reports, no injuries or property damage has been reported.
Before this earthquake, another one of 5.2 magnitude jolted Afghanistan on December 12, 2023. Before that, in October last year, a powerful 6.3 magnitude earthquake followed by strong aftershocks killed dozens of people in western Afghanistan.
