Britney Spears has broken her silence following her husband Sam Asghari's announcement of their separation, revealing that she could no longer endure the emotional pain.
Asghari, 29, cited "irreconcilable differences" in a divorce petition filed in Los Angeles on Wednesday. He has requested spousal support and coverage of legal fees from Ms. Spears, who is 41. The singer expressed her surprise and shock that her six-year relationship with Asghari had come to an end.
Addressing their breakup in an Instagram post, Spears conveyed, "As everyone knows, Hesam and I are no longer together," she began. "6 years is a long time to be with someone so, I’m a little shocked but … I’m not here to explain why because its honestly nobody’s business !!!"
"I've been playing it strong for way too long and my Instagram may seem perfect but it's far from reality and I think we all know that. I would love to show my emotions and tears on how I really feel but for some reason I've always had to hide my weaknesses." she added.
She went on to mention her desire to openly express her emotions and tears regarding her true feelings but noted a history of concealing her vulnerabilities. Nevertheless, Spears asserted her determination to remain as resilient as possible, expressing that she was currently coping reasonably well.
As an Iranian-American actor, model, and fitness trainer, Asghari first crossed paths with Ms. Spears during the filming of her music video for "Slumber Party" in 2016. He was a staunch supporter of her efforts to end her father Jamie's conservatorship, a legal battle she triumphed in only months prior to their marriage.
The couple became engaged in September 2021 and subsequently married in a small ceremony last June. Reports of marital troubles surfaced in US tabloids earlier this year, and both had been observed in public without their wedding rings.
On his Instagram post, Mr. Asghari disclosed, "After 6 years of love and commitment to each other my wife and I have decided to end our journey together.”
"We will hold onto the love and respect we have for each other and I wish her the best always," he added.
He also asked the media to be kind and thoughtful. "Asking for privacy seems ridiculous [sic] so I will just ask for everyone including the media to be kind and thoughtful." Asghari said.
