Netflix's royal drama 'The Crown' is in its sixth season now. Part two of season 6, set to release on December 14, follows the events leading up to Princess Diana's tragic death in 1997 and the beginning of Prince William and Kate Middleton's love story. It also takes a look at William's grief and how he deals with being first in line to the throne.
Ed McVey, who plays Prince William, shared his experience about the role of a lifetime. McVey said that they didn't have much of a connection to the royals at the time, so they didn't have an intense, burning need to portray them in a certain way.
Photos of McVey and Bellamy filming at St. Andrews in Scotland came up in March of this year, and Netflix officially released a first look of the lovebirds months later. A trailer for Part Two was released on December 1 that gave a closer look at the young royal and princess-to-be.
After the casting news broke, McVey took to Instagram to address his feelings. He said that he would have liked to have asked the real Prince William a question during his research and preparation for the role, but not particularly. As a prospect, he thinks that adding a layer of pressure would have been difficult.
The Crown marks both McVey and Bellamy's professional debut, as well as of Luther Ford who is portraying Prince Harry. Bellamy was discovered from self-submitted audition tapes following a casting call on social media to play Kate Middleton in the final season of "The Crown."
William and Kate graduated in 2005, and their relationship began as friends first. They got engaged in October 2010 and got married in April 2011 at Westminster Abbey in London. Luther Ford, in his first-ever acting role, listened to Harry's 2023 memoir "Spare" on audiobook to prepare for the part.
