New Mexico is expected to receive two feet of snow through Thursday as a snowstorm will continue to cover portions of northern New Mexico with thick, wet snow. In other regions of the state, it will rain.
Snow and rain are expected to persist across northern, central, and eastern New Mexico throughout Thursday morning. However, the winter storm is expected to end as it moves eastward across the state. Snow and rain will start to lessen by Thursday afternoon, but there will still be some places with a lot of snow and thunderstorms.
By Thursday night, drier air will have moved across the whole state of New Mexico, while areas of rain and snow will still be pushing through eastern New Mexico. It's possible that certain roads could remain hazardous for traffic even on Friday morning.
Over the northern mountains, up to 24 inches of snow is expected to fall. Snowfall in the other areas might range from 6 to 12 inches. Additionally, the Upper Rio Grande Valley—which includes Santa Fe—the area surrounding Clines Corners, as well as the lower altitudes of southwest Colorado, are expected to receive a few inches of snow. Although accumulations are predicted to be less than 0.5 inches, some light snow is possible in the Albuquerque Metro early on Thursday.
Snow and rain began moving into parts of New Mexico early Wednesday morning. Scattered showers and even thunderstorms continued across eastern parts of the state, along with areas of drizzle and fog. Snow has been falling across the northern mountains, with drier weather in the lower elevations. A mix of rain and snow is also developing in western parts of New Mexico.
