Snapchat users in the United States and across the world complained that the messaging app's AI chatbot faced some troubles on Tuesday night. My AI, in particular, uploaded a cryptic Story on its profile and stopped responding to text chats, sparking concern among many users.
Snapchat's My AI chatbot, which was made available to all users worldwide earlier this year, is supposed to respond to users' messages like a buddy. It should be able to suggest places to go and Lenses to use, as well as respond to Snaps’ users messages in conversation. Unfortunately, it briefly stopped working on any of these functions and instead started responding to all chat messages with the same standard response: "Sorry, I encountered a technical issue."
In addition, My AI is said to have uploaded its first and only Story to its profile. Users from the United States were unable to view My AI's narrative since it had been erased, but video uploaded by some users on social media indicates it lasted approximately one second. The Story displayed a flat beige area with another light flat color in the top quarter of the screen, leading users to speculate that it could be a wall and ceiling.
One user posted the story screenshot and captioned it, “Anyone else’s Snapchat My AI post to their story?” Another user questioned, “Guys, I’m not fucking kidding; the Snapchat AI posted my fucking wall. I’m fucking scared. What do I do? The AI is never busy, and suddenly it’s busy for EVERYONE.”
A Snapchat official reportedly said the disruption that affected My AI had been fixed. The problem was not completely rectified right away, as My AI continued to answer at least some users' text messages with, "Hey, I'm a bit busy right now. Can we make up time later?" Others shortly reported that the My AI chatbot was back online and available to answer questions about its peculiar Story. In addition, the spokesperson has not commented on the article's content.
Unfortunately, when questioned by a user, My AI was noticeably less open, stating that it hadn't posted a Story because it is incapable of doing so.
