During her conversation with Jimmy Fallon on Tuesday, the "Modern Family" actress discussed her role in the upcoming Netflix miniseries titled "Griselda."
Sofía Vergara mentioned how she acquired some new skills during the filming of her new show.
The show is centered around the life of Griselda Blanco, a Colombian drug trafficker who held sway over Miami's criminal scene in the 1970s and 1980s, earning the name "Godmother of Cocaine."
Vergara expressed her appreciation for director Andrés Baiz, crediting him with teaching her how to portray her role.
“I didn’t know anything,” she said. “He taught me how to smoke. He taught me how to do cocaine. He taught me a lot.”
“Alright, hold on, hold on,” Fallon interrupted. But Vergara clearly had more things to say as she humorously went on.
“It was amazing because I was 51 years old and I didn’t even know how to, you know, how to light a cigarette,” she added. “I’ve never done cocaine. So it’s like, it was amazing. It was like, a great experience.”
Amidst the audience's laughter, she soon realized the innocent error and corrected herself, saying, "No, no!"
“The cocaine that I did was fake,” she clarified. “But I had to pretend. The cigarettes are also fake. Everything was, it’s fake.”
“But the acting was real,” she added, prompting Fallon to burst into laughter.
“Griselda” is set for release on Netflix on Jan. 25.
