The Indian Army today thwarted an attack by Pakistan's notorious Border Action Team (BAT) and killed a heavily-armed terrorist.

It also grievously injured two other militants in the operation along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district, a senior official said today.

The Army also subsequently recovered 3 live RPG Grenades,4 disposable Rocket Launchers, 2 IKOM radio set, 1 AK Magazine, 2 Molotov cocktails, 4 UBGL grenades, 7 Hand grenades, PIKA belt fired, 1 Mobile Phone, 3 back packs, Medical satchel and a Pakistan National flag.

According to the army the BAT is Pakistan's Border Action Team that carries out Cross LoC operations. The army says the BAT teams are trained by Pakistani Army and Pakistani Air Force to  carry out operations and raids in order to dominate the LoC. The BAT members include commandos of Pakistani Army and the militants having expertise in guerrilla tactics. The army says they work along with Pakistan's special service group.

In 2013, BAT killed and beheaded Lance Naik Hemraj and injured another. Later when Lance Naik Hemraj was cremated, leaders from all political parties visited his village and promised that a befitting reply would be given to Pakistan.

That time opposition leader Sushma Swaraj, had asked the then UPA government to take strong action against Pakistan and avenge the death of Hemraj by bringing back 10 heads from the other side.

According to the Army source, infiltration attempts are likely to rise in coming weeks as weather has started improving in the State and this year there was not much snowfall in the higher reaches.

The army says it is maintaining high alert along the LoC in sensitive border districts of Poonch and Rajouri to foil attempts of infiltration.

Jammu-based defence spokesman said that the Army's White Knight Corps is keeping a strict and constant vigil across the LOC and all the security force are prepared to thwart any nefarious designed of Pakistan sponsored militant.
