Covid-19 Africa News: Active Cases Reach 86 Lakhs As Omicron Variant Fuels Fire

As the Covid-19 Omicron variant has hit the world, its epicentre, Africa is seeing a heavy rise of coronavirus cases. As of Monday, active cases have reached 86 lakh in the continent, Africa CDC reported.

As of Monday evening, Covid-19 cases in Africa have reached 86,38,595, the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) said.

It is the healthcare agency of the African Union (AU). It said the death toll across the continent stands at 2,22,827, and some 80,89,604 patients have recovered from the disease so far.

South Africa, Morocco, Tunisia and Ethiopia are among the countries with the most cases on the continent, said Africa CDC, Xinhua news agency reported.

South Africa has recorded the most Covid-19 cases in Africa with nearly 3 million cases, followed by the northern African country Morocco with 9,49,732 as of Monday evening, it said.

Southern Africa is the most affected region when measured in terms of caseload, followed by the northern and eastern parts of the continent, while central Africa is the least affected region, according to the Africa CDC.
