All this makes everyone feel pretty cynical about promises of quality and deadlines. I, for one, know that even the new airport, private sector or not, will not be of international standards. That's because international standards keep going up and up. I speak from first-hand experience: the Virgin Clubhouse at Heathrow airport for upper-class passengers is 25,000 sq ft large. In look and feel, it's like an expensive, private, members-only club. You can get a massage or a shave, or even your hair styled. There's a spa with sauna, steam rooms and showers and a tanning booth for those who want to claim they were in St Tropez. There are beds for the sleepy and a library and office for workaholics. As for alcoholics, the bar must be the biggest ever. There's even a floor-to-ceiling Japanese water wall to help you unwind.
Mumbai airport will top that? I think not.
