The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) released a video on Sunday, the first episode of what they termed as ‘Congress Files’, on Twitter accusing the grand old party of corruption during the UPA government.

Sharing a 3-minute-long video, the BJP tweeted in Hindi, “In the first episode of Congress Files, watch how corruption and scams happened one after the other in the Congress rule…”

The video begins by mentioning a very large number that the BJP accused the Congress of looting from people’s pockets. Displaying ₹48,20,69,00,00,000 in the opening scene, the narrator of the video says, “Ye kisi chhote desh ki arthvyavastha ya kisi vikas yojana ki dhanrashi nahi hai.Ye paisa aapki jeb se loota hua hai. (This is not the economy of a small country or funds for some development project. This is money you have been robbed of.)”

The BJP alleges that in the 70 years of its rule, Congress looted “Rs 48,20,69,00,00,000” of the hard-earned money of the people “by means of money laundering and corruption”.

The video also features then Congress chief Sonia Gandhi and former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

“This is money that could have been utilised in useful areas like security and development,” it says and adds, "Using this money, 24 INS Vikrant, 300 Rafale jets, and 1,000 Mangal Missions could have been made or purchased. But the country had to bear the cost of Congress' corruption, and it lagged behind in the race of progress."

The video also claims of the “scams” that BJP has accused Congress of during the last 10 years of its tenure, including "coal scam of ₹1.86 lakh crore, ₹1.76 lakh crore 2G Spectrum scam, ₹10 lakh crore MNREGA scam, ₹70,000 crore commonwealth scam, a ₹362 crore bribe in the helicopter deal with Italy, and ₹12 crore bribe for the chairman of railway board".

The video ends by saying this is only the “jhanki” or trailer and that the movie is still not over.

The BJP’s attack comes at a time when Congress has launched several protests over the Adani-Hindensburg issue. The Congress has also alleged the BJP of conspiring against its leader Rahul Gandhi, who was recently disqualified as a Member of Parliament after he was convicted in a defamation case.

Gandhi will on Monday file an appeal before a court in Surat in Gujarat against his conviction in a criminal defamation case.
