Earthquake tremors were felt in Delhi and adjacent areas on Thursday. It was the second quake in a week in Delhi. Earlier, on 1 January, an earthquake of magnitude 3.8 hit Delhi and surrounding areas at around 1.19 am.
It was after an earthquake of magnitude 5.9 struck Afghanistan on Thursday. The earthquake hit the Hindu Kush Region of Afghanistan around 7:55 pm. The epicentre was 79 km south of Fayzabad in Afghanistan at a depth of 200 km.
Delhi is under seismic zones 4 -- the high risk prone to earthquakes.
"Earthquake of Magnitude:5.9, Occurred on 05-01-2023, 19:55:51 IST, Lat: 36.39 & Long: 70.66, Depth: 200 Km ,Location: 79km S of Fayzabad, Afghanistan", said National Center for Seismology (NCS), the nodal agency of the Government of India for monitoring of earthquake activity in the country. There was no immediate report of any injury to anyone or damage to any property.
