Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav advocated for a caste census, asserting the need to bring those from backward communities into the mainstream. Speaking at a rally in Haryana, he emphasized his party's commitment to securing rights and respect for these communities. Yadav acknowledged the nationwide demand for a caste census and pledged that, post the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, his party would ensure its implementation.
Addressing the audience, Yadav criticized the Centre's Agniveer scheme for soldier recruitment. He vowed that the SP's 2024 Lok Sabha polls' manifesto would include the promise to end the Agniveer system and revert to the previous recruitment method. This announcement comes amid the BJP-JJP coalition's rule in Haryana.
Former Gujarat Chief Minister Shankersinh Vaghela and other leaders joined Yadav at the event organized by Independent legislator Balraj Kundu, ahead of the upcoming Haryana assembly polls. The Congress has also advocated for a caste census, and the JD(U) government in Bihar has already released findings from its own survey.
