Akhilesh Yadav, leader of the Samajwadi Party, criticized the BJP's "triple-engine" campaign in Uttar Pradesh, citing the Balasore railway accident as an example. Referring to the tragedy that claimed 275 lives and injured over 1,100 people, Yadav remarked, "Those who are showing dreams of a triple engine, you have seen that the triple engines collided." He further shared a clip of Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw's explanation of the anti-collision system, accusing the government of false technology.
Prior to the recent urban local body polls in Uttar Pradesh, the BJP urged voters to elect the party at all levels of governance. The BJP emerged victorious, securing 813 out of the 1,420 seats in the corporators category and winning all 17 mayoral seats. In response, Yadav mocked the BJP's "Tiffin Pe Charcha" campaign, criticizing the government for conducting such events amidst rising prices and unemployment. He questioned their commitment to children's welfare and stated, "Those who are not giving food to children, and are themselves having tiffin, what can be expected from them... that they will improve the future of the children?"
When asked about starting their election campaign from Lakhimpur Kheri, Yadav drew attention to the tragic incident where eight people were killed during a farmer protest in October 2021. He questioned whether justice had been served and whether farmers had hope for increased income under BJP rule. Yadav expressed confidence that the BJP would face defeat in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections at both the state and national levels. Additionally, he visited party workers and leaders at their residences and is scheduled to participate in the concluding session of a training workshop for SP workers in Devkali on Tuesday.
